Product Introduction
Polypropylene (PP) Resins

Polypropylene (PP) is an important thermoplastic resin that can be classified in different ways based on various criteria. Below are the main classifications of polypropylene along with their properties and applications:
**By Polymerization Method:**  
Polypropylene (PP), the thermoplastic resin with the lowest density, can be divided into homopolymer polypropylene (PP-H) and copolymer polypropylene. The latter is further categorized into block (impact-resistant) copolymer polypropylene (PP-B) and random copolymer polypropylene (PP-R).  
1. **PP-H**  
   Polymerized solely from propylene monomers, PP-H has the lowest density among common plastics. Its highly regular molecular chain structure results in high crystallinity but poor impact resistance.  
   **Advantages:** Good strength and corrosion resistance.  
   **Disadvantages:** Poor impact resistance (brittle), low toughness, poor dimensional stability, susceptibility to aging, inferior long-term heat stability, and low barrier properties against gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide.  
   **Applications:** Strapping, blow-molded bottles, brushes, ropes, woven bags, toys, file folders, electrical appliances, household items, microwave-safe containers, storage boxes, and packaging films.  
   **Identification Method:** When burned, it produces flat strands that do not stretch long.  
2. **PP-B**  
   Produced by copolymerizing propylene with a small amount of ethylene (7-15%). However, the high probability of two or three ethylene monomers bonding in sequence means the ethylene monomers remain confined to the block phase, failing to disrupt the regularity of PP-H. Thus, PP-B does not significantly improve the melting point, long-term hydrostatic pressure resistance, heat resistance, or pipe processing properties of PP-H.  
   **Advantages:** Superior impact resistance.  
   **Disadvantages:** Low transparency, low gloss, poor moisture resistance, acid/alkali corrosion resistance, solvent resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance.  
   **Applications:** Bumpers, thin-walled products, baby strollers, sports equipment, suitcases, paint buckets, battery cases, and thin-walled items.  
   **Identification Method:** Burns without blackening and can be drawn into long, round strands.  
3. **PP-R**  
   Synthesized by copolymerizing propylene with a small amount of ethylene (1-4%) under heat, pressure, and catalytic conditions, PP-R features ethylene monomers randomly distributed along the propylene chain. This randomness reduces crystallinity and melting point while improving impact resistance, long-term hydrostatic pressure resistance, heat-aging resistance, and pipe processing performance.  
   The molecular chain structure and ethylene content directly influence long-term thermal stability, mechanical properties, and processing performance. The more random the ethylene distribution, the more pronounced the property modifications.  
   **Advantages:** Excellent overall performance, high strength, rigidity, heat resistance, dimensional stability, outstanding low-temperature toughness (flexibility), transparency, and gloss.  
   **Disadvantages:** The best-performing PP variant.  
   **Applications:** Pipes, shrink films, IV bottles, high-transparency containers, transparent household items, disposable syringes, and packaging films.  
   **Identification Method:** Burns without blackening and can be drawn into long, round strands.  
4. **Comparison of the Three Polypropylene Types**  
   - Tensile Yield Strength: PP-H > PP-B > PP-R.  
   - Rigidity: PP-H > PP-B > PP-R.  
   - Impact Strength: PP-B > PP-R > PP-H.  
   - Transparency: PP-R > PP-H > PP-B.  
   - Low-Temperature Toughness: PP-B > PP-R > PP-H.  
**By Application:**  
- **Textile Industry:** PP fibers, known for their lightweight, softness, and breathability, are widely used in textiles. PP-based fabrics offer excellent breathability and comfort, making them ideal for summer clothing and undergarments.  
- **Construction Industry:** PP fibers, valued for corrosion and wear resistance, are used in construction materials such as carpets and wallpapers, offering durability and stability.  
- **Medical Industry:** PP fibers, prized for antibacterial and breathable properties, are used in medical products like masks and gloves, ensuring hygiene and comfort.  
- **Environmental Protection:** PP fibers, being biodegradable and recyclable, are used in eco-friendly products such as shopping bags and garbage bags, promoting sustainability.
