Horizontal Band Saw Machine is primarily used for metal cutting processes (including alloy structural steel, medium carbon steel, low alloy steel, heat-resistant mold steel SKT, high alloy steel, special alloy steel and stainless steel, bearing steel, acid-resistant steel, straightened steel, and various other metal materials), it is particularly suitable for sawing operations of metal materials, and it is also suitable for sawing operation in wood industry. Its working principle is as follows:
**Working Principle:** The horizontal band saw machine manually lifts the workpiece into the lifting and transferring rack. The lifting cylinder of the rack rises to slightly elevate the workpiece, and then the handwheel is rotated to adjust the workpiece length to the correct sawing position. After aligning the sawing position, the rack descends, and the left and right V-shaped vises center and clamp the workpiece. The saw carriage advances to the sawing position, and the saw frame rapidly descends to perform the cut. Upon completion, the saw frame quickly ascends, the saw carriage retracts, the V-shaped vises release, and the workpiece rests on the transfer rack. The operator manually removes the workpiece to begin the next cycle.
**Structural Types:** Based on structural characteristics, horizontal band saw machines can be classified into three types: **scissor type**, **column type** (including **double-column** and **single-column**), and **rotary horizontal band saw machine**. The scissor-type band saw features a saw frame that pivots vertically for feed, making it suitable for smaller-diameter workpieces. The column-type band saw has two columns supporting the up-and-down movement of the saw frame, offering higher stability and precision for large workpieces. The rotary horizontal band saw provides greater flexibility and adaptability.
**Advantages and Disadvantages:** The horizontal band saw machine offers benefits such as high-efficiency cutting, precision control, and adaptability. Its fast cutting speed significantly enhances productivity, while the adjustable saw blade ensures high-precision cuts. The multi-directional worktable adjustment accommodates workpieces of varying specifications and thicknesses. However, its drawbacks include sub-optimal performance and stability when cutting larger materials, as well as relatively higher costs for procurement and maintenance.
**Classification:** Structurally, horizontal band saws are further categorized into scissor-type, double-column, and single-column band saws. Based on usage, they are divided into **manual type** (economical, manual feeding and cutting) and **automatic type**. According to the automation level of the controller, they can be classified as **manual type** (semi-automatic, manual feeding) or **fully automatic type** (automatic feeding and cutting).
Regarding cutting angle requirements, they are categorized into **angle saws** (capable of cutting angles such as 90° and 45°) and **non-angle saws** (limited to 90° vertical cuts). 1. **Cutting Angle Adjustment:** To cut any angle within 45°, first loosen the fixing handle, then rotate the saw bow clockwise to align with the desired angle on the base's scale, and finally tighten the fixing handle. 2. **Vise Angle Adjustment:** After setting the cutting angle, adjust the small vise accordingly. Loosen the vise fixing screw, align the small vise with the large vise at the same angle, and then re-tighten the screw.
**Saw Blade Selection:** 1. The lifespan of a saw blade primarily depends on an appropriate depth of cut, which is determined by tooth pitch, cutting speed (blade rotation speed), cutting force (saw bow descent speed), and feed pressure. 2. **Tooth Pitch:** A blade with excessively large teeth and fewer teeth per inch may lead to unstable cutting and increased load per tooth, risking tooth breakage or damage. Conversely, overly fine teeth can cause chip clogging and rapid wear. For soft, ductile workpieces, coarse-tooth blades are preferable, while fine-tooth blades yield smoother cutting surfaces.
**Main Components:** The horizontal metal band saw machine consists of the following key components: - Base - Bed and column - Saw beam and transmission mechanism - Guide device - Workpiece clamping mechanism - Tensioning device - Feeding rack - Hydraulic transmission system - Electrical control system - Lubrication and cooling system
The **hydraulic transmission system**, comprising pumps, valves, cylinders, oil tanks, and pipelines, controls the saw beam's lifting and workpiece clamping under electrical guidance. The feed speed can be infinitely adjusted via a speed control valve to suit different materials.
The **electrical control system**, including an electrical box, control panel, junction box, limit switches, and solenoids, manages blade rotation, saw beam movement, and workpiece clamping to execute standard cutting cycles.
**Lubrication System:** Before operation, lubricate the designated parts (wire brush shaft, worm gearbox, main bearing seat, worm bearing, lifting cylinder's upper and lower shafts, movable vise sliding surface, and clamping screw). The worm gearbox uses a No. 30 oil bath for lubrication. Fill oil through the upper plug hole until the level (when the saw beam is at its lowest) falls between the upper and lower marks on the oil gauge. Replace the oil after one month of use, then every 3-6 months thereafter. The gearbox's bottom features an oil drain plug.
**Operating Procedures:** - Operators and maintenance personnel must undergo professional training to master the machine's operation and repair skills. Workers should ensure adequate rest to maintain focus. - To change speed, first stop the machine, open the protective cover, loosen the belt, reposition the V-belt to the desired pulley groove, re-tighten the belt, and re-cover. - Adjust the chip-clearing wire brush to contact the saw blade's teeth without exceeding their roots. Ensure the brush effectively removes chips. - Adjust the guide arm along the dovetail rail according to the workpiece size, then securely lock the guide device. - The maximum cutting diameter must not exceed specifications, and workpieces must be firmly clamped. - Set appropriate blade tension, speed, and feed rate. - No cutting fluid is needed for cast iron, copper, or aluminum workpieces; other materials require it. - If the blade breaks during cutting, replace it and flip the workpiece to restart the cut. Lower the saw bow gently without impact. - Operators must not leave the workstation during cutting or wear gloves. - At the end of each shift, power off the machine, open the protective cover, clear chips around the saw wheels, and perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
